We recently purchased a few of the Kumon workbooks to help The Bean learn her letters. Right now, we’re working on this one.
Here’s some of The Bean’s work.
I like how it breaks things down into basic steps and encourages practicing each step before moving on to putting them together. I’ve been looking at some of their other workbooks and will probably be ordering a bunch before too long. This is just what I’ve been looking for to help work with The Bean on her letters and doing purposeful writing/drawing at home.
Kumon workbooks definitely Work For Me!

Be prepared to be amazed at just how much she’s going to learn over the next few years. I’m constantly amazed at how much the Gruesome Twosome has learned. Moreso than with my first child, but shhh, don’t tell him that! :) He holds his own amazement as a near-twelve year-old!

We got a three pack of Kumon from Costco last year and my little guy (4) loved the cutting book and finished it quickly. He liked the upper case book but the number book wasn’t his thing yet. We found a beautiful my first crafts Kumon at Barnes& Noble that he wanted to start on as soon as he saw it. I really like the thick paper and nice graphics they use.

Might I recommend the preschool aged maze books? Great for hand-eye coordination and changing directions on the paper.
I used to make dozens of mazes by hand as my eldest son would just whip through them in the books!

I’ve used the cheap workbooks from WalMart and the Dollar Store with my guys. They do the trick without costing me a fortune.
To answer your questions from your comment today, all of my extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) live(d) in Benton County – think Fayetteville, Bentonville (home of Walmart). I grew up all over – Arkadelphia, Camden, but jr & sr. high was spent in NE Ark., south of Jonesboro. Today, my parents and brother live in Benton County, also. I’ve lived in Rhode Island for 11 years – almost a third of my life! But I will always be an Arkansan in my heart, even if my accent doesn’t sound like it any more.

We also received a few of these Kumon books last year, and my daughter LOVES them!!! I need to remember to get more. They have really helped her in learning her letters, numbers, how to draw lines, shapes, etc. One of the Kumon packets actually helped teach her how to write out her name :)
