This post originally published on March 18, 2008. I’ve decided to re-run it since it fits this week’s WFMW theme so well. Enjoy!
It really frustrates me when I find a good recipe that I’ve planned to make only to realize that I’m missing an ingredient or two that is called for. With all the increased cooking that I’ve been doing over the past couple of months, this has happened on several occassions. I didn’t want the abscence of one ingredient keep me from making a yummy dish, and I also didn’t want to run to the store for one little thing either.
But in all my poking around on food, recipe, and cooking websites and was thrilled when I stumbled across this substitution chart at the Kraftfoods.com website. I printed it out and have it in my kitchen for quick reference. I’ve used it several times in the past month and the recipes have always come out great. Using it is also increasing my food knowledge as I learn about what ingredients can be used in place of others. Pretty nifty. It definitely Works For Me!

Great tip! I’m always digging for my Betty cookbook for the conversion charts; I’ll be printing and taping these up tomorrow! Blessings, Whitney

That’s a very good idea. I don’t know why I haven’t printed out a list of substitutions yet.
