Beanish and Other Languages I’m Learning

Just a place for my ramblings as I learn about being a mother and loving my daughter.

Happy 40th Anniversary, Mamaw & Papaw! June 19, 2008

This past weekend, we headed back to our hometown to join T’s sister and brother-in-law and numerous other friends and family members in surprising T’s parents with a 40th anniversary party.  T’s sister has been planning this since last year, and I’m thrilled to report that Mamaw and Papaw were definitely surprised.

The plan was for them to think that they were only going out for a celebratory lunch with T’s sister and brother-in-law and niece.  The first surprise was that they would be taken to lunch in a limo!  The second surprise was that T, The Bean, and I were waiting for them in the limo when the door was opened.  Since we live a 7 hour drive away, our visits back home aren’t run of the mill, and the fact that we were there was a treat for us and for them.

Here’s a picture of them when the door was opened to reveal The Bean sitting in her car seat.

I couldn’t get around fast enough to get a clear shot of Mamaw’s face since we nearly forgot to have the camera out to catch their expressions until it was too late!  But if you look through the window, you can kind of see her face too.  T’s mom said her first thought upon seeing The Bean was “that baby looks just like The Bean!”  She quickly peeked in the car to see if we were in there too to confirm to herself that it really was The Bean in person!

Here they are in the limo on the way to Red Lobster for lunch.

After lunch, we all used the “girls-need-to-lie-down-for-a-nap-just-ride-around-in-the-limo-for-a-little-while” excuse to keep them occupied until the driver would drop them off at the surprise reception T’s sister had planned a little later.  The girls did get naps, but we also used the time to finish setting up before T’s parent’s arrival.

They were surprised again to see so many friends and family waiting for them when they were dropped off at the reception site.

Here’s the whole immediate family at the reception.

It was a lot of fun, and we were so happy to honor such a special anniversary milestone.

If you look closely at the table decorations, you’ll notice a small, metal, heart-shaped basket on the table.  The baskets were filled with red hots which The Bean discovered are quite tasty.  Every time I looked up, she was scoping out which table had a chair positioned close enough for her to reach the red hot basket on each table.  She ate so many that she threw up when we got back to the house a couple of hours later.  We’ll see if she still wants them the next time she has a chance to have them again!

Hats off to T’s sister, K, for spear heading the whole thing and doing so much work to make it happen.  Other family members definitely contributed as well to make it a special day!

Congratulations, Mamaw and Papaw on 40 years of marriage.  Thanks for being such a blessing and a wonderful example!

M & M May 19, 2007

M got to visit with her cousin, M, while she was at Grandparent’s Camp last week.  From all reports, she had a blast and enjoyed M too.  Mamaw said she would go over and rock M’s seat from time to time.  Here’s a picture of the two of them together.  I know there will be plenty more to come!

Germ Warfare on the Homefront February 10, 2007

We’re battling a wonderful stomach virus here in the big city.  M is the only one afflicted…so far.  Hopefully, T and I will not catch it.  It hasn’t been pretty so far, complete with vomitting and liquid poo.  The fever seems to have abated, which is good since it was making M feel miserable.  The vomitting was pretty short-lived.  But according to the pediatrician, the diarheea with this particular strain of stomach bug can last as long as two weeks… Pray for us.

Right now, M is subsisting completely on diluted white grape juice and Kix.  She refuses to drink the pedialyte.  But luckily, she’s still taking in plenty of liquids, so I don’t think that dehydration will be a real concern.

If you will, also pray for little M, who is currently battling RSV.  She’s holding her own and still at home, so we’re praying it doesn’t get worse before she fights it off.

We Are Really Still Alive January 24, 2007

Things have been quite busy here for the past few weeks. I think this is the longest that I’ve gone between posts before. We’ve been out of town and back, off of work and back at work, and visited pediatricians and doctors both in Houston and Louisiana. It’s been a whirlwind.

We went to visit family in Louisiana for a belated Christmas visit and for a special birthday dinner for my grandmother. There’s a whole post about that coming up. It was really good to see family. We got to see our new neice as well. T’s sister and her husband had a baby girl on December 26. Here are some photos of her if you’d like to see how adorable she is.

M has been sick with another ear infection since the first of the year. We ended up having to see the pediatrician when we were in Louisiana, which was interesting since I took her to the same doctor who was my pediatrician when I was growing up. Funny how somethings come full circle.

Anyway, M had out-patient surgery for eartubes this morning. She’s a little fussy but doing well. I’m just excited that we will hopefully have fewer or no more ear infections. I’m also hoping that her speech really improves since she hopefully won’t be trying to hear through ears full of fluid for the first time in about 7-8 months.

I hope that each of you are well. Write me when you can to fill me in on all your news!
